Imagined Spaces Initiative implements a technology-driven, community-centered program aimed at improving access to support services for survivors of
gender-based violence (GBV), while promoting prevention and gender equality in underserved communities through its platform innovation Mobimocc.
Problem Statement
Gender-based violence remains widespread, particularly in rural and low-resource settings where access to information, reporting mechanisms, and support services
is limited. Survivors often face stigma, fear of retaliation, and systemic barriers that prevent them from seeking help. Additionally, digital exclusion driven by
low internet access, literacy gaps, and affordability further restricts access to critical services.
Program Approach
This program combines accessible technology solutions with community engagement strategies to address both the immediate and structural barriers to GBV response and prevention.
- IVR-Based Support Platform
The program leverages Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology to provide anonymous, confidential, and accessible support to GBV survivors. Through basic mobile phones, users can:
- Access information on GBV, rights, and available services.
- Report incidents safely and anonymously.
- Receive referrals to relevant support providers.
The platform is designed for low-connectivity environments, operates in local languages, and is tailored to individuals with low literacy levels, ensuring inclusivity
- Awareness and Prevention Campaigns
The program implements targeted community awareness and behavior change campaigns to address the root causes of GBV. These include:
- Community dialogues and sensitization sessions.
- Engagement of men and boys as allies.
- Use of radio and digital platforms to amplify messaging.
- Use of radio and digital platforms to amplify messaging.
- Promotion of gender equality and rights awareness.
Expected Outcomes
- Increased access to safe and confidential GBV support services.
- Improved awareness and understanding of GBV within communities.
- Enhanced reporting of GBV incidents through safe channels.
- Strengthened community capacity to prevent and respond to GBV.
- Greater inclusion of marginalized groups in accessing support services.
Value Preposition
By integrating low-tech, scalable digital solutions with grassroots engagement, the program addresses both access and awareness gaps.
It offers a cost-effective, inclusive, and replicable model that can be adapted across different contexts.
This initiative aligns with broader goals of gender equality, digital inclusion, and protection of human rights, and contributes to building safer,
more resilient communities.
